APC Console Config

The initial configuration of an APC PDU can be a little challenging.  For me, having done the initial configuration both via network and console cable, I found that the easiest way to setup our PDUs was via a console cable.  APC had decent documentation of the process, so it would be better to look up their documentation vs. my describing it.  You are best off going to APC's website and searching for your particular device (for example, we run the APC models: AP7811, AP7841, and AP7830).

Once you are connected to the PDU's console, I found it easiest to simply enter the IP address, Gateway, and Subnet Mask information; from that point, do the rest of the configuration via the web interface.  It is particularly useful to enter things like the SNMP community string if your organization uses network monitoring software.  I also noted information like the Circuit ID, but this is purely optional.
